Gypsum Boards

Gypsum boards are produced in regular, moisture-resistant and fire-resistant types.

Boards in a drywall system

Drywall is a lightweight, engineered construction system.

Drywall combines light steel framing, gypsum boards and installation and jointing components. Subject to the system design, the wall cavity can also carry electrical and mechanical services and acoustic or thermal insulation.

Most of the work is completed without brickwork, mortar or plaster. The board must be specified with the framing, screws, insulation and the correct installation detail.

01RG

Regular Gypsum Board

Used for partitions, wall coverings and fixed suspended ceilings. It has a gypsum core faced with light-coloured paper.

02MR

Moisture-Resistant Gypsum Board

A gypsum-core board with water-repellent additives for lower water absorption than a regular board.

03FR

Fire-Resistant Gypsum Board

A gypsum board made with special additives and fibres to provide greater fire resistance than other board types.

Drywall benefits

Drywall is more than a gypsum board.

The wall’s performance comes from the board, framing, screws and fixings, insulation, jointing and correct installation working together.

01

Lightweight, efficient construction

Less wet work, lower weight and faster installation are key benefits of dry construction.

02

Service space

The wall cavity allows orderly routing of cables and some services without extensive chasing.

03

Designable performance

Board layers, framing arrangement and insulation affect acoustic, thermal, mechanical and fire performance.

04

Finish-ready surface

Correct joint treatment prepares the surface for paint, wallpaper and other suitable finishes.

Applications

Choose the board for the interior condition.

Board choice alone does not determine the full system performance; the selected system and installation must suit the project conditions.

Interior wall construction
Regular Board

Dry interior spaces

RG is selected for typical dry interior walls, subject to the system design.

Interior ceiling construction
Moisture-Resistant Board

Humid, controlled interiors

MR is selected for interiors with higher humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms, with waterproofing where required.

Fire-Resistant Board

Systems with fire requirements

FR is selected for systems with stated fire-related requirements.

A complete system

Performance values belong to the complete system.

Maximum wall height, framing spacing, final thickness, acoustic performance and fire resistance vary with profile type and width, board layers and type, insulation, height, loading and installation details.
